Daniel 1

"King Nebuchadnezzar told the chief of staff to bring some of the Israelites. They were to be young men who were healthy, good-looking, knowledgeable in all subjects, well-informed, intelligent, and able to serve in the king's palace. They were to be taught the language and literature of the Babylonians.

The king arranged for them to get a daily allowance of the king's rich food and wine. They were to be trained for 3 years. After that they were to serve the king. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were Judeans who were chosen.

Daniel made up his mind not to harm himself by eating the king's rich food and drinking the wine. God made the chief of staff kind and compassionate toward Daniel. Daniel asked to be tested for 10 days, only to eat vegetables and water to drink. Then compare them to the other men who were eating the kings diet.

After 10 days Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego looked healthier and stronger than the other young men eating the king's diet. God gave these 4 men knowledge, wisdom, and the ability to understand all kinds of literature. Daniel could also understand all kinds of visions and dreams.

At the end of the 3 year training period, the king talked to them and found no one else like Daniel, Shadrach, Mishach, & Abednego, so these 4 men served the king. Whenever asked a question that required wisdom and insight, he found that they knew 10 times more than all the magicians and psychics in his whole kingdom."

Some of my thoughts

Irregardless of those around them, these 4 men stood firm,
they had resolved not to defile their bodies,
because of their obedience to God.

D. S. M. & A were obviously vegetarians!

This is such a great lesson for me. I am what I put into my mouth.
The results will affect my mind, my body, and my spirit
for years to come!

It takes desire & daily discipline to accomplish such a goal.
