Hosea 8

"Put the trumpet to your lips!
An eagle is over the house of the Lord
because the people have broken my covenant
and rebelled against my law.
Israel cries out to me,
#1 'O our God, We acknowledge you!'
But Israel has rejected what is good
an enemy will pursue him.
They set up kings without my consent;
they choose princes without my approval.
With their silver and gold they make idols for themselves
to their own destruction.

Though Ephraim built many altars for sin offerings,
these have become altars for sinning.

#2 I wrote for them the many things of my law,
but they regarded them as something alien."

Today's Thoughts

#1 Are we like Israel when we repent
after it is too late to avoid
the painful consequences of our sins?
#2 Although the laws were written for them,
Israel considered them "alien."
Isn't easy to listen to a sermon and think of
others who would benefit, who should take heed.
Sometimes we think God's word applies to others
and not ourselves.
Apply the lessons to your own life first,
because often our own faults are the very
first ones we see in others.
