Joel 1:1-12

Good bye Hosea,
Hello Joel!

Quick summary
Joel wrote to the people of Judah who had become prosperous and complacent (taking God for granted) they turned their eyes to forms of idolatry. Joel warned them of their impending judgment because of their sins, and to urge them to turn back to God to receive his forgiveness and mercy.

"Has anything like this ever happened in your days
or in the days of your forefathers?
Tell it to your children,
and let your children tell it to their children,
and their children to the next generation.
What the locust swarm has left
the great locusts have eaten;
what the great locusts have left
the young locusts have eaten;
what the young locusts have left
other locusts have eaten.

Wake up, you drunkards, and weep!
Wail, all you drinkers of wine;
wail because of the new wine,
for it has been snatched from your lips.

The fields are ruined,
the ground is dried up,
the grain is destroyed,
the new wine is dried up,
the oil fails.
Surely the joy of mankind
is withered away."

Beware of the Devil's Destruction
Tell your children to pass these words on to their children Joel says!
He describes a terrible plague of locusts that covers the land and devours the crops. The devastation brought on by these creatures is but a foretaste of the coming judgment of God, the "day of the Lord." Joel uses words that describe a horrible situation in hopes to turn the people to repent of their sins before it is too late!
