Obadiah

Just a little background on the shortest book in the Old Testament.
This book of 2 themes was written by a little known author,
but we do know that he wrote it to the Edomites.

A brief history of the conflict between Israel & Edom.
The nation of Israel descended from Jacob;
the nation of Edom descended from Esau.
Remember the twins, Jacob and Esau and
how they struggled in their mother's womb?
Apparently they had a life long struggle!

1. Esau sold his birthright and blessing to Jacob.
2. Edom refused to let the Israelites pass through its land
in Numbers 20:14-22.
3. The Israel's kings had constant conflict with Edom.

Edom was a unique mountainous nation,
occupying the region SE of the Dead Sea, including Petra.
They were rugged people, fierce and proud warriors with
a seemingly invincible mountain home.

My comentary records how they gloated over Israel's problems,
and looted Israel's countryside.
Apparently God had enough of Edom's pride,
and Obadiah was the messenger to deliver God's message.
