Nahum 1

a little background

Nahum is writing to the people of Nineveh and Judah about 100 years after Jonah preached to the same nation. Obviously it took several generations and sin crept in again, they did not learn from their forefathers. So God graciously sent another prophet Nahum to announce the destruction of this powerful nation because of their wickedness, Nineveh would come to an end within 50 years.

v. 6-8
"Who can withstand his indignation?
Who can endure his fierce anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire;
the rocks are shattered before him.

The Lord is good,
a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him,
but with an overwhelming flood
he will make an end of Nineveh;
he will pursue his foes into darkness."

Why do people REFUSE to believe?
God's punishment is like an angry fire!
To those who love him, his mercy is a refuge
supplying all their needs with unending compassion.
But to God's enemies he is an overwhelming flood
that will sweep them away.
(Just think of the force
of Hurricane Katrina!)
The relationship we have with God is our choice!
What do you believe???
