John 4:27-38

"The disciples urged Jesus to eat something. But he said to them, 'I have food to eat that you know nothing about..'
Then his disciples said to each other, 'Could someone have brought him food?'
Jesus replied, 'My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest?' I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor."

3 Points to Ponder
The "food" which Jesus was referring to was his spiritual nourishment. It includes more than Bible study, prayer, and attending church. I also comes from doing God's will and helping to bring his work of salvation to completion. We are nourished not only by what we take in, but also by what we give out to others for God. Look at John 17:4.

The "wages" Jesus offers are the joy of working for him and seeing the harvest of believers. The wages come to sower and reaper alike because both find joy in seeing new believers come into Christ's kindgom.

Others have done the hard work may refer to the OT prophets and to John the Baptist.
