Acts 6:5-7

5This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.

6They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

7So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

Stephen is chosen

This is the first time Stephen is mentioned, he was one of the 7 men chosen to care for the needs of the widows.

I hope some day people I know would consider me a woman full of faith, and the Holy Spirit.

Before Stephen became one of the chosen, he was recognized for his spiritual qualities, God had prepared him for such a position in advance.

This passage also mentions that the number of disciples increased rapidly. That is why we must know more about the early church and HOW the church grew at that time so that we may follow the same principles. It was the Lord's church, men were the leaders, and they were obedient to the faith of their forefathers.
