Again we walked 14.5 miles, which is the average for the day. My legs don't ache anymore, so I am trying to figure out how in the world I am going to be able to maintain this routine when I return to Texas to stay in good condition. Maybe just chase around after Charlie and Libby!!!
My day began when I was to meet Rich first thing in the morning at our Executive Lounge where we get our daily, delicious & plentiful, continental breakfast. On the way down the elevator stops between floors with no power. I was with 3 other Englishmen who shared in experience. After about 10 minutes the maintenance people show up, pry open the door and literally lifted the other lady and I out!! I will never go on that one elevator again, if I were alone on it, I might still be there now!!!
It is overcast and spitting rain on a cool day so we decide to take the metro over to see what was going on over at the French Open. We did not discover that area yet and knew all we had to do was follow the huge crowds in whatever direction they were going. We walked around the entire complex but had no desire to acquire tickets to sit in the spitting rain to watch some early rounds of some players whom we are totally unfamiliar with. We knew we could sit back at the hotel and get a better view and stay warm and dry!(by the way, Federar won today as well as Monaca!)
We hopped on the metro to the Arc de Triumph, it was huge and very impressive, but needed an umbrella now because of the rain so we walked around a little and went back to the hotel to watch tennis. We have had a great balance of touring and resting which makes this such an enjoyable vacation.
This evening was very cloudy so we are going to a huge indoor shopping area called the Galleries at Lafayette. It was like 5th Avenue in NY with all the finest designer shops all in one huge beautiful old domed building, with amazing stained glass windows in the dome. VERY EXPENSIVE EVERYTHING! So we walked around the area where the Paris Opera House was located and another beautiful church. We traveled through some side streets very similar to SoHo in NYC, where aspiring designers are beginning their businesses.
The funniest thing that happened today was over at the French Open. There was a group of college students, maybe 200 who were headed down the street toward us. They were shouting throwing flour, eggs, and silly string, so of course they had a police escort. Rich begins to take their picture and a group stand in front of us chanting something in french, and posing so Rich would continue to take their pictures. Since the police were all around Rich only clicked a few pictures so our tails would not be dragged to jail for encouraging the protesters.
At the end of the day we fell into be and turned on the tv, instead of televising the French Open in Paris, we saw the Colonial Golf Tournament in Fort Worth Texas, showing pictures of the Ft. Worth Zoo. Small world isn't it???
God is opening our paths every direction we go. So I thankfully visit every church we go near to find a quiet place to reflect. Ever in His Presence, even in Paris.
