Proverbs 21

"All a man's ways seem right to him,
but the Lord weighs the heart.

To do what is right and just
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

The plans of the diligent lead to profit
as surely as haste leads to poverty.

Better to live on a corner of the roof
than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.

If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor,
he too will cry out and not be answered.

Better to live in a desert
than a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife.

He who guards his mouth and his tongue
keeps himself from calamity.

There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan
that can succeed against the Lord."

In each of these proverbs, the person Solomon is referring to would benefit if they took the simple advice of thinking before they act. God know our motives, he knows us better than we know ourselves!

The simple phrase, What Would Jesus Do, is a good rule to consider even to this day. We often have to make choices in areas where the right action is difficult to discern. Pray, think, then act!
